  5. The following is a list of changes in WinZip 5.0.  For a list of
  6. changes in earlier versions see the section titled "Version
  7. History" in the online help.
  8.  
  9. - Added PKZIP-comptiable built-in zipping, so PKZIP is not needed
  10.   for basic archive management.  Note that two advanced features,
  11.   disk-spanning and encryption, still require PKZIP.
  12.  
  13. - Added support for Windows-based virus scanners.  Two scanners
  14.   are automatically detected by WinZip:
  15.  
  16.     NAVW, distributed with Norton Desktop for Windows 2.2
  17.     WNAPVIR, distributed with Central Point Desktop for Windows
  18.  
  19.   The MWAV.EXE scanner distributed with MS-DOS 6.0 is not
  20.   supported because it does not provide command line switches for
  21.   automation.
  22.  
  23. - Added File/Information dialog box (shortcut:  click on status
  24.   line while WinZip is active).
  25.  
  26. - Added support for international characters in archive names and
  27.   files in archives.

  29. - Built-in unzipping is used when running DOS virus scanners.

  31. - Added built-in Actions/Test operation for ZIP files.

  33. - Multiple WinZip windows (tasks) can now use the built-in
  34.   unzipping (and zipping) at the same time (earlier versions used
  35.   PKUNZIP for the second task).

  39. - Internal unzipping is now used when fileids are specified in the
  40.   Extract dialog box (earlier versions used PKUNZIP in this
  41.   situation) .

  43. - The Optional Working Directory in the Directories dialog box can
  44.   now be used for removable media only.  By default the Optional
  45.   Working Directory is set to your temp directory and is used for
  46.   removable media only.

  48. - The CheckOut features now uses subdirectory information in
  49.   archives.

  51. - The focus in the "View Last Output" dialog box is now initially
  52.   on the OK button instead of the multi-line edit field.
  53.  
  54. - Clicking on an inactive WinZip window no longer activates Abort
  55.   dialog during zip or unzip operation - you must activate the
  56.   window THEN click on it to get the Abort dialog box.

  58. - The extract operation will now issue an error message if you try
  59.   to overlay a file that is "in use" by Windows, even if SHARE is
  60.   not loaded.  For example, you can't accidentally replace the
  61.   copy of WINZIP.EXE that you are running, as this could cause a
  62.   crash.
  63.  
  64. - Zero length ZIP files are now opened correctly.
  65.  
  66. - Built-in unzipping now creates zero length files when
  67.   appropriate.
  68.  
  69. - Built-in unzipping now handles hidden subdirectories.

  71. - The text of default button in the "Add" and "Drop" dialog boxes
  72.   reflects the selected action (Add, Freshen, Update, or Move).

  74. - If no CheckOut Base Directory is specified and the archive is on
  75.   a floppy WinZip suggests the Temp directory as the CheckOut base
  76.   directory.

  78. - Optional beep now only sounds if archive operation took over one
  79.   second.

  81. - Better sorting (e.g. sort by type also sorts by name).
